Maintenance instructions

Dear Customer,

Thank you for choosing Rugiano. Each of our creations is not merely a piece of furniture, but the fulfillment of a vision where finest Italian craftsmanship shapes the most noble materials to bring unique and unrepeatable pieces to life. Every Rugiano piece is crafted in Italy, the result of a supply chain of excellence that combines manufacturing tradition with formal innovation.

We invite you to consult this guide to preserve the charm and original beauty of your choice intact over time. The following instructions will advise you on the best method to care for your Rugiano furniture. Please stick to the recommended products, avoiding harsh or abrasive detergents: this way, you will be able to enjoy Rugiano quality for many years to come.

Brass

For the care of brass components, we recommend using a damp, soft cloth. It is essential to avoid using abrasive sponges or steel wool, which could scratch the finish. We also advise against using products containing acetone, thinners, ammonia, alcohol, or abrasive cleaners, as they can irreparably damage the metal's luster.

Glass and Crystal

For cleaning glass and crystal, it is ideal to use white vinegar diluted in plenty of water or specific glass cleaners. If the crystal is set within metal profiles, special care must be taken: the use of alcohol or ammonia must be avoided, as contact with such substances could stain or oxidize the surrounding metal profile.

Marble and Stone Tops

Marble is a noble and porous natural material that requires extremely gentle cleaning to prevent liquid absorption and staining. We recommend using exclusively water and a soft sponge. Wine, coffee, lemon, or vinegar residues must be removed immediately. To preserve the beauty of the stone, treatments with specific neutral products should be carried out periodically, ensuring they are suitable for the polished or honed finish of your top. Strictly avoid acidic detergents, bleach, and abrasive materials.

Wood or Veneered Parts

For wooden surfaces, we recommend using a neutral detergent. The finish is designed to repel moderate amounts of dirt and grease, thanks to water-repellent and anti-yellowing varnishes. It is important not to subject the wood to high temperatures and not to use acetone, ammonia, abrasive cleaners, or furniture waxes, which could alter the natural look of the wood species.

Lacquered Parts

For cleaning lacquered surfaces, a neutral detergent applied with a soft cloth is preferred. During the first cleaning operations, the cloth may show slight traces of color: this is a natural occurrence due to paint dust surfacing during drying and will disappear after the first few cleanings. We recommend avoiding solvents, ammonia, or abrasive products.

Upholstery

To preserve the comfort and aesthetics of the upholstery, the seat and back cushions should be fluffed weekly, thus avoiding the flattening of the most stressed areas. We recommend redistributing the filling by shaking the cushions and alternating their position. In the case of reversible cushions, it is good practice to flip them every week to ensure even wear.

Coverings

Regular cleaning of coverings can be carried out with a vacuum cleaner equipped with soft brushes or with an adhesive lint roller. In the case of stains, it is essential to act promptly by blotting with a clean cloth to prevent the liquid from spreading. Most common household stains can be removed by using lukewarm water and neutral soap, proceeding with extreme gentleness.

Leather Coverings

Dust on leather should be removed with a vacuum cleaner fitted with soft brushes. For cleaning, you can wipe with a well-wrung cloth dampened with lukewarm water, with the exception of nubuck leather, which must be treated exclusively dry with a soft cloth. Stains must be blotted immediately with absorbent material, avoiding vigorous rubbing. Every six months, we recommend applying a specific moisturizing product for fine leathers.

Hinges, Runners, and Metal Components

The correct functioning of hinges and sliding runners is guaranteed by periodic lubrication with universal products, after removing any dust. For all other structural metal components, using a damp cloth is sufficient, always avoiding the use of any abrasive substance.

Outdoor

The creations of the Rugiano Outdoor collection are tested to withstand atmospheric agents, finding their ideal placement in verandas and terraces. To maintain the product's excellent quality unaltered over time, weekly maintenance is advisable, promptly removing leaves, flowers, or organic residues. For cleaning metal surfaces, especially in environments exposed to sand and salt spray, we recommend first rinsing the components periodically with fresh, lukewarm water only, so as to eliminate salt deposits and sand build-up before they layer. Finally, ahead of winter storage, the furniture should be thoroughly cleaned, perfectly dried, and protected with its dedicated raincover, then stored in a dry and adequately ventilated environment.

Rugs

Rugs should be cleaned at least once a week with a vacuum cleaner without rotating heads, so as to not damage the yarn. Every six months, it is useful to vacuum the back of the rug as well. In case of liquid spills, absorb immediately without rubbing. For coffee, wine, or milk stains, use a mild, diluted wool detergent, applying it with a damp sponge and drying thoroughly. In case of stubborn dirt such as grease or mud, we recommend contacting a specialist. Never dry clean.

Disposal

Rugiano promotes a culture of respect and protection for the environment. Thanks to the excellence of our supply chain and the predominant use of noble and natural materials—such as metals, marble, and wood—our furniture is designed to last over time and, at the end of its life cycle, can be largely recovered for new production processes. We therefore invite you not to dispose of the product in the environment, but to take your Rugiano furniture to your local municipality's public disposal systems, thereby encouraging the recovery of precious resources.
